With the in-person EXPO PACK México 2020 canceled due to coronavirus concerns, show producer PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, is now offering a complimentary digital experience to encourage connections between users and suppliers. The digital experience will virtually convene the industry, offering the latest solutions and advances in packaging and processing, market trends and a robust webinar series providing insight into the current environment around COVID-19.
“PMMI remains focused on the Mexican marketplace, creating a digital environment in which the industry can gather, virtually, that showcases the most exciting innovations in new materials and machinery,” said Laura Thompson, vice president, trade shows.
The digital experience features more than 750 exhibitors and provides users access to exhibitor profiles and many opportunities to connect with leading suppliers via the online exhibitor directory. The My Virtual Planner feature provides a ready-made organization tool for discovering exhibitors with specific packaging and processing solutions and includes new tools to help navigate the digital experience. After searching the online exhibitor directory by product category, vertical market or keywords, users can “favorite” exhibitors for easy reference and follow-up on new products and technologies, take advantage of special show discounts and identify exhibitors who provide sustainable solutions.
My Virtual Planner’s ability to connect exhibitors and prospective customers via Virtual Business Cards serves as a unique opportunity for the one-on-one experience the industry has come to expect from EXPO PACK México. Users are encouraged to search and discover hundreds of new products and technologies featured within the online exhibitor directory, including 180 exhibitors offering sustainable solutions via the EXPO PACK Verde program.

Targeted educational webinars on the Latin-American market began on May 6, hosted by PMMI’s Latin American Media Director and Editor of Mundo PMMI, Lilián Robayo. The first webinar, “Impacts and Lessons of COVID-19 on the Latin American Packaging Industry,” attracted nearly 300 registrants. The webinar featured experts from consumer goods companies such as Unilever, Avon, Quala Nova, and Baxter, who shared views and findings about supply chain challenges and disruptions, new economic situations and post-COVID-19 predictions.
The panelists agreed that despite implementing flexible work-from-home guidelines for the foreseeable future, it is more complicated for manufacturing to go digital. Some of the companies indicated they are beginning to consider virtual reality as a solution to complement on-site work. The second webinar, scheduled for June 2, is entitled “Sustainability in Packaging in COVID-19 Times,” and will feature Neurosketch co-founder Alejandro Salgado. Salgado intends to shed light on the relationship between COVID-19 and consumer behaviors towards the circular economy during a pandemic.
Finally, Marshaun Montgomery and Carolina Alfero from Euromonitor will close the webinar series with “Global Packaging Landscape 2020: Trends, Growth, Innovations and Insights.” In this session, attendees will learn about global trends driving innovation in packaging as well as COVID-19’s impact on the industry.
